Oslo is a city with many hilltops, with the ocean at the bottom and then just uphill from there. While this might make it a bit challenging to walk around in its great for some breathtaking sunsets. Ive lived in this city for over 15 years and im still taken back by the beauty of the sunset, so in this post, i will tell you about some of my favourite spots to see the stunning sunsets of Oslo

Grefsenkollen

Grefsenkollen is a hilltop located in the north of Oslo. And in my opinion one of the most beautiful sunset view spots in Oslo. This does make sense as the viewpoint faces west. And if you look hard enough you can even see the Holmenkollen ski jump

I love taking a hike up there from kjelsås, which you can reach by tram. The hike is full of spectacular nature along the way, it is however quite the walk, but there is a bus going all the way up if that is more your thing. There is a restaurant on top where you can have a meal and enjoy the stunning view. Or you just bring some snacks, have a breather on top, and soak it all up.

The Opera rooftop

The view from the roof of the modern opera building shows off Oslo in a majestic way. The nearby buildings get soaked in the most beautiful lights. I think it is just breathtaking. There are also a few rooftop bars in close proximity, but i prefer the outdoors for my sunsets.

I have rarely seen so many breathtaking sunsets as here. It is one of those places where a picture does not do this place justice. It feels like one is surrounded by sunset, where you can see basically all of Oslo all the way down to the Oslo fjord. It is also a great place for sunrise if one is more of an early bird. To get here one does have to take public transport, however i would say it is well worth it. The koloni gardens are quite close to Sognsvann, a lake that is great for picnic, so it is absolutely possible to stay at Sognsvann for a bit and then walk into the sunsets.

Ekebergparken

This remarkable place combines nature with art, as it is a sculpture park with many well maintained paths to walk. This park has it all, art, views, nature and even a restaurant at the top. The park is just as exciting to see in the dark, as the paths are lit, so use the opportunity to see the sunset and then look at the art in a different light.

Maridalsvannet

In the north of Oslo you will find this beautiful lake.  It’s a great spot for hiking or for checking out the sunset. Or camping if thats your jam. People mostly come here to walk, but it is a beautiful place to see the Sunset.

Kyststien on Nesodden

The islands in the Oslo fjord also deserves a spot on this list. Nesodden might not be an Island, it is a peninsula, but it definitely has the island feel to it. And it has wonderful costal path, both on the east and west side. For sunset views i would recommend the west side though.

One can get there by boat, and bonus is that the Oslo pass gives you access to the 20 minute boat ride. Wondering what the Oslo pass is see here Oslo pass
